SOME NEWS TO REPORT:
I guess the best way to describe the upcoming season is "different". Our board has done two things. One, listened to your issues, and two, listened to the realities of our budget. We have made some significant changes in the way we will operate during the upcoming season.
First, we will no longer have mandatory fundraising. We found that most people did not wish to participate in the fundraising events that we had set out, even though they had "paid" for them. This season, we will have NO fundraising money to be paid at registration! We will still be doing fundraising, but we've gone retro with a twist. We have set a target for our fundraising needs as
a club. If we do not meet that target, we will have to increase registration costs next season to cover it. I will provide details for this in the registration booklet.
Second, due to limitations in our budget, and the desire to hold the line on rates as much as possible, we have had to cut some ice. For 2008-2009, all teams will have one 2-hour practice per week. In short, the Pre Novice Team will now only practice Tuesdays at 8:00pm.
Third, we have changed our position on Transportation and Accommodations. Last season, many parents expressed displeasure with our policies regarding chaperones and busing. This season, we will no longer have chaperones, and we will no longer be responsible for rooming lists and deciding who stays with whom. Each competition will have a block of rooms reserved for the team. You will have to contact the hotel and reserve one of the rooms on your credit card. This way, you can stay with only your own family, or you can bunk with someone else if you wish to save money, or if you have family or friends in town, you can stay with them if you like. We will also no longer make bus travel mandatory. Each skater will be given directions to the hotel and arena, and a time that they are required to be at the rink for the first skate. This way there will be no more conflicts concerning the times we are leaving or returning, or the amount of people that can ride the bus, since there will be no bus. We will, however, include accommodations and transportation for one competition in your registration fee. For that competition only, previous policies concerning rooming and buses will be in place.
Some comparisons between last year and this year so you can more clearly see the direction we are heading in, and it's effect on you:
